Appleton, the Mile of Music festival was in full swing, and it was always a blast! With so many fantastic musicians and venues to choose from, it was hard to decide where to go. But on a Friday night, I decided to just wing it and see where the night would take me.
I met up with my buddies at Riverside Bar in the flats. As soon as I walked in, the energy was electrifying, and the place was bustling with people. The first band I caught was a lively bluegrass group, and they had the crowd dancing up a storm. We enjoyed their music for about 45 minutes before deciding to head over to Jones Park, about 4 blocks away.
When we arrived at the park, it was teeming with music lovers. The Jamie Kent Band was rocking the stage, and we had a great time soaking in their tunes. However, our timing was a bit off, as they finished their set after 15 minutes, and a new band was getting ready to perform.
Deciding to mix things up, we made our way to Downtown Appleton and ended up at Houdini Plaza. We weren't sure which band was playing, but the sheer variety of music was almost overwhelming, in a fantastic way! While sipping a beer at Bazil's bar, we unexpectedly bumped into an old friend, and catching up added to the fun.
From there, we received a text from other friends, inviting us to the Hilton Ballroom. As we entered, we were amazed to see the place packed, reminiscent of the old Children's Hospital costume parties. The band on stage was unfamiliar to us, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the lively vibes. We chatted with friends for about 30 minutes before deciding to head back to Jones Park.
Back at Jones Park, the crowd was still going strong, and The Heavy Heavy Band were putting on an awesome show. We stayed for a little while, grooving to their beats, before heading back to Riverside Bar to catch another bluegrass-style band.
The night had been full of music, laughter, and good company, but we knew we needed some rest for the next day's Sand Bar Bash, which we had to be up for by 7AM. If you're a music fan, I think you must make it to Mile of Music, as you won't regret a moment of it!
