Sunday Funday had arrived, but the weather was a little iffy for boating, so I needed to find another way to get some water time in. That’s when a friend suggested an adventure to see the Green Bay Waterfall at Fonferek Glen County Park. I thought, why not? It sounded like the perfect way to spend the day, and I grabbed my camera, ready to capture whatever beauty awaited us.
It was a quick drive, and as we pulled up, it didn’t look like much—almost like arriving at a small family farm. But don’t let appearances fool you; as soon as I got out of the car, I noticed photographers everywhere. There were senior pictures being taken, and families posing for full photo sessions. The spot was clearly a favorite for those in the know.
As we walked past the frame of an old barn and through a beautiful field full of flowers, I started to see why this place was a photographer’s dream. The buildings and natural surroundings offered endless opportunities for great shots.
A short walk up the trail brought us to a viewpoint that overlooks the Green Bay Waterfall—a stunning cascade with what I’d estimate to be about a 40-foot drop. I, of course, grabbed a few photos before we headed down the trail towards the waterfall itself.
The area around the falls reminded me a lot of the cliff walls down by the Dells, with rugged rock formations and lush greenery. I snapped a few shots from the top of the waterfall, and then we debated whether or not to cross the water to get to the other side. In the end, we chickened out and opted to head back downriver in search of another path across.
No proper path presented itself, but we did find some rocks we could leapfrog across to reach the other side. Despite the heavy mosquitoes, the beauty of the place made it worth every bite. We ventured upriver to the falls and decided that wet shoes were a small price to pay for the adventure of getting under the falls.
The sound and power of the water cascading down were mesmerizing. The cool water splashing down was refreshing, and shooting photos from under the falls was an absolute blast. We eventually headed back up the trail to the top of the falls, where we noticed a path leading to a roughly one-mile hike.
This trail took us along the river’s edge and offered more chances to leapfrog rocks to cross the water. There were so many cool spots to stop and overlook the gorge. Some of the views from high above the river were simply breathtaking.
We spent about two hours soaking in the beauty of Fonferek Glen, and honestly, I could have spent the entire day there, just shooting photos and enjoying the scenery. It’s a fantastic spot for nature lovers, and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves the outdoors. Whether you’re with family or friends, this place is a must-visit. If you’re into photography, you’ll have a blast capturing all the amazing views.
So, if waterfalls and nature are your thing, put Fonferek Glen on your list of must-dos. And as always, I’ve got some video and photos for you to check out!
