There’s nothing like supporting friends when they’re turning their dreams into reality—especially when that dream involves opening an awesome new bar overlooking Lake Winnebago! Last Friday, I made my way to Hilbert to check out The Shanty, the latest hotspot owned by two incredible people I’m proud to call friends—Derek and Lauren. Spoiler alert: it did not disappoint.

As soon as I pulled up, I knew it was going to be a great night. The road was packed in both directions, with cars lined up, as people were flocking in to get their hands on The Shanty’s Friday night fish fry. I’d already eaten beforehand (because I thought they might be a little swamped), but after seeing the fish and those crispy breaded mushrooms, I’m kicking myself for not indulging. Don’t worry—I’ll definitely be back to try them!

Inside, the place looked incredible—completely transformed, full of energy, and packed with people. Derek was in the kitchen, cooking up a storm, while Lauren was behind the bar, expertly slinging drinks like the pro she is. I got caught up talking with some of my boating friends who had come out to support this amazing couple and their new venture. Between the chatter and part of the Packers game playing on the TV, the night flew by before I even realized I hadn’t grabbed all the photos and videos I intended to!

Derek and Lauren have truly outdone themselves with The Shanty, and I couldn’t be more excited for them. They’ve put in the hard work to revamp this lakeside gem, and it’s clear that they’re just getting started. I’m also thrilled to be helping them with their website and getting them added to the Wiparty website. This bar has everything you could want—delicious food, great drinks, a welcoming atmosphere, and let’s not forget those stunning lake views.
