My favorite little man and I decided to make a dash to Fremont, and trust me; we were in for a treat at the Upper Midwest Power Boat Association drag racing season finale.

As we drove into Fremont, the first thing that caught our eye was the sea of cars – the city was alive with energy, and it was clear something big was happening. Bridge Bar's lot was overflowing with vehicles, but we weren't about to let that deter us. We cruised down the street and struck gold, finding a prime parking spot just a block away from the Fremont Hotel. Fate was on our side because, you see, a couple of friends had tipped me off that they'd be on the pier.

We practically skipped out onto the deck, scanning the horizon for familiar faces. It didn't take long – our friends were right there on their boat, enjoying the festivities. What luck! They had secured a primo spot right in front of the starting line, granting us an unobstructed view of the heart-pounding action, not to mention easy access to refreshing drinks. Plus, the open setup allowed my little fishing enthusiast to cast his line and try his luck.

Now, I must confess, the fishing wasn't exactly a success in the traditional sense. But hey, who could have predicted that my little man would reel in a vintage 50/50 Graft soda can? It must have been ancient, and the crowd watching from the wall got a kick out of it – just as much as we did.
