One of my friends asked if I was into Pop Evil, and I confirmed that I was indeed a fan. They then informed me that the band was performing at The Rave in Milwaukee that Sunday, and tickets were on a "buy 1 get 1 free" offer. Well, why miss out on that? So, I quickly made some calls to round up some friends, grabbed tickets, and off we went. It had been over 15 years since I'd last visited The Rave, but I remembered being impressed with the venue, and this time was no different. It was a breeze driving in, and we had no trouble getting parking by booking online with our tickets. After confirming my name, we parked and walked about 1/2 block to the door within minutes.
As soon as we walked into the building, the old but very cool architecture was a sight to behold. It was reminiscent of a mansion fit for Dracula, and the metal fans filling up the place only added to the charged atmosphere. We walked into the main floor and there was a sea of people as well as a mosh pit cooking. As tempting as it was to go get in the pit and try to love someone we opted to move up to the VIP balcony, which gave us a fantastic view of the stage and the crowd. The opening band, Avoid Sunday, got the crowd lathered up with about a 45-minute set, followed by The World Alive band, who kept the fire alive for another hour. By the time Pop Evil took the stage, the place was buzzing with excitement, and they didn't disappoint. The show was fantastic, and it was clear that both the venue and the band were top-notch.
I tried to get a photo pass to bring in my camera, but the radio station and the band didn't get back to me, so I apologize for the low-quality photos and videos. The sound quality on the sides of the balcony wasn't perfect, but with a venue this size, it has to be nearly impossible to cater to every spot. One amusing thing I noticed was the disproportion between the number of urinals and sinks in the men's bathroom. There were about 40 urinals and 20 sinks, but only two hand dryers! It just cracked me up for some reason.
Overall, I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a fantastic concert experience. As for Pop Evil, they're a top-notch act, and their drummer's performance was particularly impressive, with hair flying everywhere as she tore apart the drums. If I could, I would watch the show again the next day. I am blessed to have friends who keep an eye out for cool events and are ready to go at a moment's notice. Life is good, my friends!
